Youth Development Weekend – FLEX and FAST Training

***PLEASE NOTE THAT AS OF JANUARY 28TH, THE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT WEEKEND HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO LOW REGISTRATIONS. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE.***

Central Escarpment Council is hosting new UPDATED FLEX and FAST Training Courses for all Cub Scouts and Scouts! FLEX and FAST are for-youth, by-youth leadership development courses designed for Cub-aged youth (FLEX) and Scout-aged youth (FAST). Throughout the course, youth will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on and engaging activities that will help to build problem solving, teamwork, effective communication, and conflict resolution skills.

FLEX Training (Cub Scouts)

When: Saturday, March 17th, 2018 – 9:30am to 5:00pm
Where: Blue Springs Scout Reserve (14009 6th Line Nassagaweya, Acton Ontario) – pick-up and drop-off will be at the main parking lot (Blue Heron side)

Early Bird Registration Fee: $20 (if paid registration is received before January 26th)
Regular Registration Fee: $25

FAST Training (Scouts)

When: Sunday, March 18th, 2018 – 8:30am to 4:00pm
Where: Blue Springs Scout Reserve (14009 6th Line Nassagaweya, Acton Ontario) – pick-up and drop-off will be at the main parking lot (Blue Heron side)

Early Bird Registration Fee: $20 (if paid registration is received before January 26th)
Regular Registration Fee: $25

Please note that if we are unable to achieve minimum registrations by January 26th, we will be unable to run the course.

We strongly encourage all participants to register early to secure a space in the course as well as to give organizers a good idea of whether there is enough interest.

Please note you are not fully registered in the course until we have received the registration fee, training application form, and completed 2017-2018 Registration Form with medical information for each person attending. You will receive an email confirming your place in the course once your paperwork has been processed.  Refunds are made only if notification of inability to attend is received at least four weeks prior to the opening date of the course (February 17th, 2018) or if the application cannot be accepted.  Make cheques payable to: SCOUTS CANADA – 2ND BRAMALEA.  No post-dated cheques. ALL REGISTRATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 17TH, 2018. Same-day registrations will NOT be accepted.

CECuboree Planning Meeting

It may be fall, but we are already looking forward to June and CECuboree 2018!

Calling all Cub Scouters and Howlers. If you attended CECuboree last year and/or are interested in this year come on out to give input about what you want to see at CECuboree 2018.

We went through all the cub suggestions for a theme and the choice was clear……..”Nintendo” will be the theme for CECuboree 2018. Mario and the gang were the most requested, from Smash Bros. to Mario Cart.

BSSR – Rube Goldberg Machine Contest

Attention Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts

Blue Springs Scout Reserve is Sponsoring a Rube Goldberg Machine Contest as a S.T.E.M. event

Register: Send $20 (per team) to David Wiebe 360 Torrance Street, Apt 610, Burlington, ON, L7R 2R9 by November 1st 2017 and then send a video of your machine in action to wiebedavid66@gmail.com by midnight 12/31/2017 Eastern Time (all submissions will receive a confirmation email)

Bonus Points if your machine includes

  1. Tennis Ball
  2. Cheese Grater
  3. Milk Jug
  4. Candle (UNLIT IS OK)
  5. Picture Frame
  6. Pipe Wrench

Super extra bonus points if your machine includes an accordion

The video/machine must be at least 2 minutes long and must end with a flag raise.

Find inspiration anywhere but all video must be 100% created by contestant team.

Judging will take place in January of 2018 and prizes will be awarded by January 31st 2018

Youth Development Weekend – Coming Soon!

Save the date for the CEC Youth Development Weekend! Taking place October 14th and 15th at Camp Manitou, there will be two great back-to-back youth development opportunities!

UPDATE: This event will now be taking place at Camp Manitou!

October 14th – Scoutcraft Outdoor Adventure Skills Workshop
This workshop will be an opportunity for any youth from Beaver Scouts to Rover Scouts to drop-in and develop their Scoutcraft skills. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never tied a reef knot before or if you’re a seasoned pro and can lash together a shelter in no time – this workshop will be a chance for every youth to learn something new!

October 15th – FLEX Training (New and Improved!)
FLEX is the leadership development course designed for Cub Scouts, and we’ve got a new updated program ready! FLEX is a for-youth, by-youth training program delivered by Venturer and Rover Scouts.

Calling all Venturers! Are you up to a Challenge? Calling all Rovers! Looking to offer some Service? Then we want you!

Love to work with younger sections? Love the outdoors? Love to camp? Love adventures and friendship? Then why not join us June 9 – 11 at Blue Springs for the CECUBOREE 17?

With 500 Cubs coming to play we’re looking for Venturers and Rovers (Scouters too) to help make this year’s CECuboree even better than last year!

You can find it at http://cecuboree.scouter.ca/. Packs are encouraged to register early. Space is limited!

For individuals who may be interested in Offers of Service, your assistance is invaluable to delivering our event. We have a number of options available to fit busy schedules if you can only make it for the Saturday, or if you’d like to join us for the whole weekend. If you’d like to help enhance an activity or add one of your own by all means we want to hear from you at contact@cecuboree.scouter.ca.
