Pass on a Good Turn

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

In the next day or two, Scouters will be receiving the January/February 2010 edition of Scouting Life magazine and on page 7 they will find an article about our first “Pass on a Good Turn” Campaign.

This campaign is easy.

  1. Do a good turn
  2. Pass on your wrist band to the person you do the good turn for.
  3. As the person to “pass it on” – do a good turn and pass on the wrist band, and keep it going.

Every member doing a good turn means that 100,000 good turns will be passed on. If every person who receives a wrist band does a good turn, we’ll have 200,000 good turns. Of course, if every wrist band got passed on 5 times, we’d be at 500,000 good turns. That would sure get some notice.

Wrist bands will be distributed to Groups through the Area Commissioner.

Good luck passing on a good turn.

MyBackCheck.Com – A further update

Friday, February 5th, 2010

We have had to update the MyBackCheck procedure because having people fax their ID to us is not giving us a good enough quality to send to MyBackCheck. They have rejected some. We have revised the procedure asking people to scan (and email), mail or hand deliver.

We have also added a line that Group Commissioners, Group Registrars, Area Commissioners, Area Registrars and Council Field Executives can now verify the ID on the ID Verification Form before it is returned to our office for processing. This will meet the legal requirements.

Click -HERE- for the complete procedure as currently updated.

Haiti Relief – Wellington Area Collection Info

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Scout groups in CEC are being asked to assist a local Rotary Club, to provide needed supplies to Haiti. Through contacts in Haiti and Dominican Republic, a wish list of supplies has been generated. Although there are many items on the list, it is logical that our groups might have some of the following: tents, tarps, and sleeping bags. We’ve been told any tent (even those that may appear torn/ripped) will be used as what the folks there are using now is pieces of cloth/cardboard and whatever else they can find.  The rainy season is coming and they need help.”  Clothing is also on the list.

Randy MacPherson has volunteered to spearhead this initiative for CEC. The Wellington Area dropoff location is 69 Rhonda Rd (Conrad’s garage) in Guelph.  Please call ahead if you’re coming at 519-836-6274 to ensure someone is there to open the garage. Pickup will be made by February 6th by Randy, and consolidated at a trailer generously provided by GSW who will take it to the Oakville collection centre on February 7th

We anticipate a significant response, and will therefore not be able to pick-up from individual homes.

Before you drop off your donation, contact Conrad to ensure someone is available to receive it, then contact Randy at 519-843-6310 (there is voice mail if we aren’t home), or at randy@scouter.ca , with the following information: name, Group & Area, a return phone number, what and where is being donated, and when it will be delivered.  You can also call Conrad with this info.

Randy will return each call to confirm that we have a record of what we are picking up from each location, so that record keeping will be easier for Mary Jane.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. This is a wonderful opportunity to be directly involved in the rescue/recovery process
